Economics

The Department of Economics was established in 1991 along with the establishment of the college. Prof. R. V. Shrikhande was the first Assistant Professor to teach in this department. He was there till 2003 and thereafter, due to some technical issues beyond the control of the institution, a visiting professor or contributing lecturer was in charge of the department on an annual basis until the appointment of Prof. Liladhar D. Kharpuriye in June 2010. His arrival, as expected, resulted in more students opting for Economics and a significant improvement in the university’s results. Like all other departments, this department also follows the same teaching and evaluation methods. Prof. Kharpuriye was awarded the Ph.D. degree by Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur in July 2016. He has been the approved research guide of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur since 2021. One student is doing research under his guidance. He has two books published, “Economics of Education” and “Arthamanthan”. He organized a one-day National E-Conference on “Current Indian Economy Challenges, Opportunities and Policies” in November 2021. He is also a life member of Indian Economic Association, Maharashtra Economics Council and Vidarbha Economics Council. Today he is working as a professor in a college.
